This project visualizes the energy that moves between two bodies when they find each other. I was inspired by the idea that tactile sensation carries a frequency, something that travels the way light travels, the way sound travels, invisible and structural at once. My goal was to make that frequency visible and emotional.
The piece opens in absence. A body that doesn’t know what it’s missing, incomplete in the way an empty box is complete. The visuals reflect this: desaturated, searching, mechanical, not quite human. Analog hardware feeds real-time data through Arduino into TouchDesigner while a webcam captures two hands finding each other in space. Galvanic skin response sensors read signals from the skin itself. Capacitive electrodes read the muscles. The distance between the hands, the audio, and the bodies’ own electrical output all drives the image simultaneously.
As the hands close the gap, Saturation builds. New forms emerge. at the moment of contact, memory surfaces. Fragments of footage, faces blurred, moments that belonged to people who loved each other. The visuals show that what was missing had a name, and its name was love, and finding it feels like coming home. The track is Touch by Daft Punk, a song that asks the same question from the other direction. Sung by a machine reaching toward feeling, toward warmth, toward something it can sense but not quite hold. The piece ends where the song ends: having touched something real, briefly, and knowing it.
