Project_GENERATRIX

2026 · hologram expert, visual artist, laserist

A holographic installation piece built from a ring of lasers facing inward, each projecting its own perspective of a three-dimensional object into a shared haze. Where the beams intersect, the brightened points materialize the object in the air as a form made purely of converging waves. Programming each laser’s unique view in TouchDesigner requires deep geometric and mathematical work, translating the logic of three-dimensional space into precise angles of coherent light.

The name comes from geometry: a generatrix is a line that, through its motion, traces and generates a surface. It felt like the perfect word for a piece where light in motion writes a three-dimensional object into existence through interference. it feels important That a coherent, mathematically exact medium like laser light is the only way to achieve this. It suggests that underneath the chaos of experience, there is always an underlying pattern and order precise enough to conjure something real from nothing but waves.

This project is a natural extension of how I already understand the world. If every sensation is a vibration, and every perception the result of waves meeting and interfering, then a hologram is that idea made visible. I used touchdesigner to turn audio signals into a 3-dimensional waveform, and geometry to map a piece of it to each laser. on much bigger scales, with many more lasers than i have been able to test with, i propose that this could be used for much higher resolution objects than just a waveform.
